2018 SCAD 5K Fun Run

Team Zoey's Alphabet Soup

Welcome to our fundraising page!

Many of you know that in September of 2008, I suffered a SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection) and an MI (myocardial infarction or heart attack). At that time I was also diagnosed with HT (hypertension) and subsequently with FMD (fibromuscular dysplasia) and I possibly have EH (ehlers danlos syndrome). This gives me quite an alphabet soup of diagnoses!

SCAD is one of the least well known causes of heart disease and heart attacks, particularly in women and affects women of all ages. It can be pretty serious and not everyone survives! I'm very fortunate as I live in a major metropolitan area where I had rapid access to the best care available. I also have some pretty amazing family and friends who were available at the end of the phone and on-site to provide me with skilled help and support.

I'm also fortunate as my Interventional Cardiologist, Dr Jacqueline Saw, who works out of VGH is considered a leading expert in SCAD related imaging and care.

I consider myself 'tripley' fortunate as September 6, 2018 will be my 10 year SCADiversary and to celebrate, on Sept 8, I am participating in the First Annual Vancouver SCAD Fundraising 5KM.

Please considering joining me to bring awareness and understanding to SCAD by making a donation to my 5KM Team, Zoey's Alphabet Soup! I am fundraising for VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation to support SCAD Research.

VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation is Vancouver Coastal Health’s primary philanthropic partner, raising funds for specialized adult health services and research for all British Columbians. We partner with donors to drive innovation and sustainable health care at VGH & UBC Hospital, GF Strong Rehab Centre, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and Vancouver Community Health Services.
